Many thanks for offering this free download. Is this copyright free and can be this free downloadable score at ABSRM exams?
Best regards.
You’re welcome! This is a public domain piece, transcribed from the original on IMSLP. Unless ABRSM asks for a specific arrangement, it should be the same. Please check the syllabus to be sure.
Thanks for the reply. ABRSM have listed this as an exam piece for Grade 4. It must be the following version:
8 Buxtehude Saraband (from Suite in E minor, BuxWV 236) Baroque Keyboard Anthology, Vol. 1 (Schott).
ABRSM regulations state:” Candidates are welcome to use music which has been legally bought and downloaded from an online source in all ABRSM exams. In a Performance Grade exam, when specifying on the programme form where the music has come from, you can state the name of the website that the music has been downloaded from.
Please note that when sourcing music from an online platform, such as IMSLP, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that both the piece and the edition being used are out of copyright, and therefore the copy being used in an exam is legal.”
Could you confirm the following, please?
1) Is this piece the Buxehtude Sarabande from Suite in E minor, BuxWV 236 from the Baroque Keyboard Anthology, Vol. 1 (Schott) edition?
2) Is this out of copyright and the download free from copyright infringement?
I would not want to be disqualifie from the exam from infringing copyright.
Many thanks,
Beatrice
Hi Bea,
1. Yes, this is the Sarabande from Suite in E minor, BuxWV 236 by Buxtehude, the same piece ABRSM lists for Grade 4. The version on Pianocoda is based on public domain sources but is not the exact Schott edition ABRSM specifies.
2. The score here is free and legal to use for study or performance. However, for exams, it’s best to check with your teacher or ABRSM if using a non-Schott edition is allowed.
Please note I’m not affiliated with ABRSM, so this isn’t official advice.
Good luck with your exam!
