Elisabeth de la Guerre
Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre was born in Paris in 1655 into a talented family with a broad musical background. She received musical training from her father and at the age of five, she performed at the court of King Louis XIV, where she impressed the nobility with her harpsichord skills.
Elisabeth was known as “La petite Merveille” (the little wonder) and began writing plays to perform at the French court. In time, she was recognised by the musicians of her time and her fame spread even abroad.
After marrying the organist Marin de la Guerre, Elisabeth settled in Paris, where she continued to give concerts and teach the harpsichord.
