Debussy
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French composer, one of the most influential of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born into a family of modest means and little cultural involvement, he showed enough musical talent to be admitted to France’s best music school, the Paris Conservatoire, at age ten.
His music was largely a form of reaction to Wagner and the German musical tradition. His works have greatly influenced a large number of composers, such as Béla Bartók, Olivier Messiaen, George Benjamin and the jazz composer and pianist Bill Evans.
